About Refresh

Refresh - The Newest Colombian Short Films is an annual catalog of completed Colombian short films, aimed at strengthening their distribution strategy in both national and international film festivals.

The International Promotion of Proimágenes Colombia, with the support of the Film Development Fund (FDC), seeks to select some of the best Colombian short films produced each year in order to collaboratively develop a strategic plan for their premieres and festival circuit journey. This plan will be tailored to the specific objectives of each short film and will include support with payment and management of submissions to prioritized festivals.

Additionally, REFRESH offers opportunities for promoting the content and talent at various international markets, as well as providing filmmakers with guidance during their distribution phase.

Juan Sebastian Sisa Archila | WHERE DO BIRDS GO WHEN IT RAINS

A filmmaker passionate about directing projects that delve into intimate narratives through autobiographical fables, immersed in the nostalgia of the future and non-places. Fascinated by the beauty of imperfection, chromatic glitches, and sound distortions, which he integrates into his creative process. He has worked as a sound designer for short films showcased at various festivals, and currently, his professional focus is on editing and post-production.

Ingrid Paola Bonilla Rodríguez | CHAIKA

Master in audiovisual production 2022 - 2023 EICTV Cuba. Master in fiction filmmaking EICTV 2024. Studied screenwriting and directing at the Eliseo Subiela School in Argentina. Member of the Colombian documentary filmmakers association ALADOS. Her creative motivations go towards a hybrid cinema that combines genres, nourishes from other arts, making use of fiction staging within documentary and documentary elements within fiction cinema. She is also interested in the creation of new universes through fantasy and science fiction genres. Screenwriter and director of the feature documentary ?Montañera? (in post production), winner FDC 2021. Co-director of the documentary short film ?Kilómetro 7?, screenwriter and director of fiction short films such as ?La gallina saraviada? and ?El mandado? winner FDC 2024. She is a founding member of the Montañera films corporation with whom she has created and managed film training projects with rural communities and community cinema.

Pablo Roldán | THE WORLD IS OUT THERE

Studied Film and Television, and has a Master's degree in Literature. He?s a film critic and lecturer. He has programmed and managed film clubs, research projects, cultural events, and film criticism workshops. He is co-founder and head of programming at the Cinemancia Festival Metropolitano de Cine.

Luber Yesid Zuñiga Ordoñez | THE GREAT FEAT

Mg. in Audiovisual Writings, Film and T.V. Director and Producer and Graphic and Advertising Designer. He is a founding partner of the production company Cinemazul Media Group and of the Communication Studio Concepto Comunicación Integral where he is director, producer, screenwriter and audiovisual creative. He has directed the short films: Cham-Piñón, Medusa de Papel, Cielo Rojo, Cólera, Mi Ranchito Hermoso and La Gran Hazaña, winner of the FDC in the children's short film category (2022). He has won 2 Abre Cámara awards: with the animated series El Team (2021) and the fiction series Mariachi Capital (2023), where he was director, as well as the documentary series Victorias y Glorias, currently in post-production. He has incorporated expanded narratives into his projects, obtaining 3 CREA DIGITAL grants (2019, 2021 and 2022) with Medusa de Papel and Escarabajos Colombian Cycling Transmedia History. He has more than 20 years of teaching experience.

Duban Pinzón | THE DEVIL ROOM

Duban Pinzón is an animator and director from Bogotá, Colombia. After studying film, he has dedicated his career to independently creating personal animation projects, earning recognition for his work. His latest project, The Devil Room, experiments with animation in the horror genre, blending personal themes with traditional superstitious stories and references to paintings by artists like Goya. In 2023, he founded Doiv, an animation studio, to continue working on animation projects and undertake more ambitious endeavors.

Omar E. Ospina Giraldo | SUKUA

Omar E. Ospina Giraldo. Audiovisual producer from the University of Magdalena.. He has made five short films with which he has participated in more than 80 festivals worldwide. In 2015, he won the India Catalina award at the Cartagena de Indias International Film Festival, in the category of new creators, with the documentary "La Ruta de Julita ''. With his short film " The Bizzanellis," he participated in the Clermont Ferrand International Short Film Festival.. In 2022, he premiered his short film ?El video? at the BFI FLARE LGBTIQI + Film festival in London. In 2020. he won the fund for cinematographic development in the category of regional stories with his featured under construction, "El Bovino de los Cuernos Curvos' '. In 2014 he founded La Fortaleza Films, and since 2019 he has been a professor of the Cinema and Audiovisuals program at the University of Magdalena. He is currently developing several short films and his second feature film as a director.

Andrés Restrepo Gómez | THE SUBTITLES

Andrés Restrepo Gómez (Medellín, Colombia, 1996). Director, screenwriter and poet. Master?s degree in Dramaturgy from the National University of Arts (Argentina). He directed the short films ?Death, don´t be woman" (2018), "The heart is the fourth wall" (2019), "Muhamab the left-handed" (2021) and "The boyfriends" 2023). He has been a script consultant for the latest feature films by Víctor Gaviria and Simón Mesa Soto. His aesthetic interest focuses on the study of bonding relationships, as well as absurd and lyrical comedy.

Juana Lotero López | CHILAPA GIRL

She was born in Medellín. Eternal learner, feminist, economist and filmmaker. Studied fiction directing at EICTV, Cuba; where directed the shorts Fragments to dominate silence and Ama. Also, she wrote, directed and co-produced Wild Strawberries (2022) and Sweet dreams (2020) (winner of FACIUNI scholarships), short films that have been shown at national and international festivals. She is interested in teaching and worked as a teaching assistant at the Universidad Nacional. Participated in several workshops, like: Images discussed with Andrés Denegri, Dinosaur Workshop with Paz Encina, Meisner Technique with Stephen Bayly, The Body of the Archive with Agustina Pérez and Irina Raffo, Austral Encounters, Documentary Meeting of the Ministry of Culture, CONECTA : Distribution laboratory for Latin America and the Caribbean, Talent Campus Buenos Aires, ?Scriptwriting, an audiovisual, non-literary approach? workshop with Mariano Llinás.

Carlos Hurtado Múnera | WHERE DO BIRDS GO WHEN IT RAINS

Experimental filmmaker from Bogotá-Colombia, focused on independent and alternative production of audiovisual projects that explore the revolutionary identity of the image and the liminality of formats. His films have been selected and awarded in several festivals, he was a NEST jury member at the San Sebastian Film Festival, and he is currently developing projects that inhabit the frontier between cinema and expanded media.

Nicolás Manuel Galfrascoli | CHAIKA

Co-founder of Montañera Films production company. Producer of the documentary feature film ?Montañera? winner of the Colombian Film Fund 2021 (in post). Producer of ?Narrando el campo: La comunidad cuenta? and ?Expedición en la vereda? cinema education projects supported by the Ministry of Culture of Colombia in 2021, 2022, 2023, and 2024. Soundman for the feature film ?Ficciones sin futuro? by Lluvia Producciones, as well as fiction and documentary projects for regional television and NATGEO/STAR+.

Alvaro D. Ruiz | THE WORLD IS OUT THERE

Producer and director. Some noted drama shorts as producer and director are Amanecer (2009), a project shot in Australia that received funding from the New South Whales Film & Television Office, winner of three international awards, that screened in over 40 festivals; Tierra Caliente (2015), a National Cultural Award nominee that screened at 30 festivals where it received three awards; Bajo la arena (2023), the film adaptation of a National Literature Prize winner short story. He is the creator, director and executive producer of drama series Ay Hombre (2023). Motherland, a feature documentary as director and producer, shot over 10 years between Australia and Colombia, is currently in postproduction.

Jorge Yesidt Vela Forigua | THE GREAT FEAT

Film and Television Producer, Finance technician and Cultural Manager with experience in fiction, animation, documentary, commercial and transmedia audiovisual projects. He is a founding partner of the production company Cinemazul Media Group where he has been the general and executive producer of projects such as: the short film Cham-Piñón, selected in more than 50 festivals and financed with commercial management resources, as well as the short films Medusa de Papel, Mi Ranchito Hermoso and La Gran Hazaña, winner of the FDC in the children's short film category (2022). He produced the animated series El Team; the fiction series Mariachi Capital and the transmedia universes: Medusa de Papel y Escarabajos Colombian Cycling Transmedia History. He has coordinated audiovisual training projects for children and other archive management projects. Currently, he is producer of the film in development Son las Penas and the documentary series Victorias y Glorias, in post-production stage.

Sofía Merga Giraldo | SUKUA

Audiovisual communicator from the European University of Madrid. She served as support staff coordinator for LA FORTALEZA FILMS, in projects such as EL CHAPO, NARCOS and CIEN AÑOS DE SOLEDAD, on NETFLIX. Production coordinator on the feature film ?EL BOVINO DE LOS CUERNOS CURVOS (2025)? by LA FORTALEZA FILMS. He currently resides in Madrid and holds the position of Production Assistant on the AMAZON, LA REINA ROJA project.

Sergio Tapias Suarez | THE SUBTITLES

Sergio Tapias Suárez (Chía, Colombia, 1998) is an audiovisual communicator and has a Master's degree in documentary film. He has directed the short films ?Pintando América? (2017) and ?Imaginario de ciudad? (2021). He has produced the short films ?Pero qué libre vamos agrowing? (2020) and ?Los Subtítulos?. In 2023 he participated in Euro Connection - Clermont Ferrand Festival and in Málaga Talent at the Málaga Festival.

Daniel Alberto Sánchez Rodríguez | CHILAPA GIRL

He is a director, screenwriter, 1AD, and producer. He believes in cinema as agency, vertigo, whim, and multiplicity. Cofounder of Noctámbulos SAS and the audiovisual collective Imago. He directed and wrote several short films recognized at BFI Flare London LGBTQIA+ Film Festival, Oberhausen ISFF (Best Short Film: Youth Jury Prize) in Germany, FICCI 63, Inside Out 2SLGBTQ+ Film Festival in Canada, São Paulo International Short Film Festival (Audience Mention), DocsMX Documentary Film Festival, SWF, Short Waves Festival (Best Short Film) in Poland, 21 Bogoshort Bogotá Short Film Festival (Audience Award), Zurich Film Festival in Switzerland, Rosario Film Festival in Argentina, and Cinefest Global in Houston, USA. Currently, he works as producer, director of photography, and editor on Muchachita Chilapa (2024), a project that won the FDC grant for documentary feature development. He was selected as a Bammer at BAM 2022 and was part of the young jury at BIFF 2022.
